Unhappy With Incumbent

To the Editor:

I encourage our community to support Rebekah Harriman-Stites as our next state representative.

She brings years of experience on Newtown’s Board of Education, consistently demonstrating command of the facts and leadership in driving consensus. She also shows strong empathy and connection with her constituency. This is particularly important now, as we deal with a polarized country in crisis.

The incumbent has shown insensitivity and is frankly out of step with the where we are today. Two incidents stand out: 1) undercutting the message of Black Lives Matter with the talking point response of “all lives matter” and 2) throwing his campaign under the bus for a Facebook post that referred to Rebekah as “a pretty face” and to Mr Bolinsky as a “man of action.”

Mr Bolinsky claimed not to have read it; I read the post in under a minute (it was short) and noticed Mr Bolinsky himself “loved” the post. So we can only conclude he did read it, lied about that, and in fact saw nothing wrong with the blatantly sexist words.

I urge my Newtown neighbors to join me in casting a vote for Rebekah Harriman-Stites as our next state representative on November 3rd — or vote early with an absentee ballot.

    Change is good.

The change we need is away from decades of Democratic majority party rule. During that time we moved from being one of the strongest states to among the weakest states in terms of GDP growth, indebtedness, taxation, outmigration and more. This is not the time to send more of that same party thinking into state government.
