Aces On The Court: Girls’ Volleyball Team Has Won Six Straight Matches

Newtown High School’s girls’ volleyball team extended its winning streak to six with a 3-1 victory at Weston on September 28, a 3-0 blanking of visiting Pomperaug of Southbury on September 30, and a 3-0 triumph at Bunnell of Stratford on October 3. The Nighthawks carry an overall record of 7-3 into a Friday, October 7, home match with Bethel at 5:30 pm.

In the win over Weston, the game scores were 25-7, 12-25, 25-13, 25-13. Grace Miller and Zosia Teraszkiewicz both had a dozen kills. Haley Austermann had six digs, Teraszkiewicz logged five digs, and Miller and Gianna Galassi both recorded four digs. Newtown picked up eight service aces led by Miller’s six. Austermann had 17 assists and Gabby Soltis handed out 13 assists.

Against Pomperaug, Newtown cruised by scores of 25-12, 25-20, 25-22. Teraszkiewicz had nine kills and three digs; Miller had six kills and seven digs in addition to a pair of aces; Annabel Saunders recorded seven kills to go along with a dig. Galassi had two aces, two kills, and six digs. Austermann had four digs and a pair of aces to go along with her 16 assists, and Soltis had two digs and an ace, as well as 15 assists. Amaro Beard-Galati had four blocks, and Saunders, Liz Anesi, and Teraszkiewicz all had blocks. Emily Daoust contributed a trio of digs.
