NHS Golf Team Competes In South-West Conference Championship Match

Newtown High School’s boys’ golf team competed in the South-West Conference championship match on October 12 and placed fifth as a team led by Trevor Hislop’s third-place finish. The Nighthawks scored 346. Pomperaug of Southbury was first with a 306.

Hislop had a score of 73, earning All SWC honors. James Celentano shot an 88 and earned All SWC Colonial Division accolades. Brendan Adams had a 92, Colin Luby had a 93, and Charlie Hanson a 99.

In late-season matches, the Nighthawks posted wins. They defeated Bunnell of Stratford 170-377 on October 4, and Joel Barlow of Redding 160-177 the next day, both at Rock Ridge Country Club. Newtown beat visiting Brookfield 171-179 on October 6 and went on the road and topped New Milford 171-193 on October 11.

Against Bunnell, Celentano earned medalist honors with a 38. In the Barlow match, Hislop took medalist accolades with a 38; Luby had a 39. In the Brookfield match, Hislop and Celentano both shot 41s for medalist accolades. In the New Milford match, Luby led the way with a 41, Hislop had a 42, Hanson a 43, Adams a 45, and Celentano a 48.
