Something delightfully spooky is coming to Edmond Town Hall next weekend.

Waterbury Symphony Orchestra (WSO) will kick off its 2026-27 Newtown Concert Series on Sunday, October 25, at 2 pm, with “The Haunting of Edmond Town Hall,” a spirited Halloween celebration featuring a 30-piece live orchestra, hauntingly familiar music, and a few surprises.

The family-friendly afternoon promises chills and musical thrills for symphony enthusiasts and Halloween devotees alike. Halloween costumes are welcome, making this an especially entertaining afternoon for families and concertgoers of all ages.

At the heart of the adventure is WSO Music Director and Conductor Leif Bjaland, whose particular fondness for the spooky season has inspired a program filled with musical mischief, mystery, and memorable melodies. In a playful nod to Newtown history, Maestro Bjaland will make his entrance as none other than Judge William Edmond, namesake of the historic building at 45 Main Street.

Under Bjaland's baton, the orchestra will bring to life a spellbinding collection of music from Hollywood's most recognizable films and the classical repertoire. Audiences will hear selections from John Williams' Harry Potter, the unmistakable theme from Ghostbusters, Danny Elfman's Beetlejuice and The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Bernard Herrmann's chilling score for Psycho.

The musical enchantment will continue with works by classical masters including Bach, Grieg, Saint-Saëns, Mussorgsky, and MacDowell, alongside imaginative contemporary Halloween arrangements by John Jesensky.

From eerie melodies and dramatic orchestral flourishes to playful musical surprises, the program celebrates the extraordinary power of live orchestral music to conjure atmosphere, suspense, and delight. A few mysterious visitors may make unexpected appearances, adding to the festive atmosphere.

Tickets are $40 general admission adults, $10 students, and available at WaterburySymphony.org and from 203-346-2000.

While “The Haunting of Edmond Town Hall” opens WSO's Newtown Series, it also continues WSO’s full its 88th season, “What The World Needs Now,” furthering the orchestra's tradition of bringing exceptional live musical experiences to audiences across greater Waterbury, Newtown, and Litchfield County.
