Rebekah Offers The Tactical Change Needed

To the Editor:

It is with true enthusiasm that I endorse Rebekah Harriman-Stites for State Representative for the 106th District.

I, like many in Newtown, appreciate the past work of the incumbent who currently holds the seat. I know he cares for constituents and listens well to their concerns, as would anyone in that position. And I know Rebekah, too, cares deeply and is a natural helper.

Moreover, Rebekah is known as a sharp thinker, and someone who is able to approach difficult questions from an empathetic and disarming perspective. And with this skill, she is willing to chart her own path in service to Newtown. She’s never been one to go along just to get along. And quite frankly, this is exactly the type of Democrat we need in Hartford. Here is just one example: Rebekah has had discussions with our local police chief, and knows that there are substantive elements of the state’s recent Police Accountability Bill that need to be reviewed, modified, or delayed. Fixing this from the inside as a Democrat is a far more effective approach than what the Republican minority has been able to muster (on this and so many other issues in Hartford). There’s nearly universal agreement among Newtown residents that Hartford needs to do more for small towns like Newtown, and this will only change if reasonable — and sometimes opposing — voices are heard from inside the Democratic majority. This is what Rebekah can provide.

Rebekah will bring the tactical change we need to help make Hartford work better for Newtown. I urge everyone to vote for Rebekah Harriman-Stites on Election Day.

My comments are my own as an individual and not on behalf of the Legislative Council, of which I am a member.

Respectfully,

Paul Lundquist
