Volleyball Team Defeats Immaculate, Pushes Barlow To Five Sets

Newtown High School’s girls’ volleyball team defeated host Immaculate of Danbury 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 25-11, 25-20) on October 12. With the victory, the Nighthawks ran their winning streak to nine. The Nighthawks, on October 17, lost to the same Joel Barlow of Redding Falcons who defeated them 3-1 back on September 20 before the winning ways commenced. The rematch, held at NHS, went the full five sets with the Falcons prevailing 3-2 (17-25, 25-10, 25-18, 23-25, 15-10).

In the Immaculate match, Addy Cordova logged six of Newtown’s 14 aces to go along with two kills and two digs. Amaro Beard-Galati had ten kills and four blocks. Emily Daoust had three aces. Gabby Soltis recorded a trio of aces, 38 assists, and three digs. Liz Anesi had five kills. Zosia Teraszkiewicz tallied an ace, ten kills, one block, and five digs.

Against Barlow, Cordova had an ace, six kills, and four digs. Beard-Galati had two aces, four kills, and five blocks. Daoust had an ace and five digs. Soltis racked up 39 assists to go along with three aces and a dig. Anesi compiled an ace, 13 kills, seven blocks, and five digs. Teraszkiewicz recorded 13 kills, 13 digs, and a block.

The Nighthawks, following a visit to Stratford on Thursday, October 19 and a home match with Notre Dame-Fairfield on Saturday, October 21 at noon, will have Senior Night on Monday, October 23, when New Milford visits at 7 o’clock.
