To the Editor:

One of our objectives as a civic-minded garden club is to “encourage and assist with civic projects.” The Great Pumpkin Race, which has been run by the Newtown Lions Club for 15 years, is a fun-filled community event in October [most recently this past Saturday, October 19] that encourages children to put together pumpkin racers with their families and have good-natured fun racing their creations.

Town and Country Garden Club has provided a craft table with donated sugar pumpkins and an assortment of Halloween face kits at this townwide event so children can create something to take home to celebrate the season. In order to make this possible, we solicit donations of pumpkins. We don’t ask anything for the finished memento except a smile from each child.

Our thanks go out to Caraluzzi's on Queen Street, Shortts Farm on Riverside Road in Sandy Hook, and the Newtown Stop & Shop in Sand Hill Plaza for the pumpkins that they donated. We were able to make 48 children very happy on Saturday, October 19th, at the Great Pumpkin Race!

Sincerely,

Judy Beers, President, Town and Country Garden Club

117 Toddy Hill Road, Sandy Hook October 21, 2019
