To the Editor:

Please join my wife and I in re-electing John Madzula to the Board of Finance. I know John from our middle school years and through Sandy’s interactions with him on the BOF. John thinks critically and examines issues from all angles — as all litigators must. John has proven to be cooperative and nonpartisan in his decisions and always tries to do what’s right. He has gone above and beyond his required duties on the BOF to serve on the BOE Non-Lapsing Work Group and to represent the BOF during BOE contract negotiations with administrators.

John’s previous experience in construction and project management has added value to discussions pertaining to capital improvement projects. John has grown up in Newtown and understands our history and the importance of keeping our history in mind while we develop as a town. Finally, at a time when there is a large turnover expected on this major board, experience and continuity are important. John will provide both.

We will also be supporting Chandravir Ahuja for Board of Finance. In his short tenure as an appointed member, Chand has proven to have the necessary financial acumen and background to ask the right questions and keep Newtown on its current path of fiscal health. Chand has been a public servant in Newtown for a long time, having previously served on the Fairfield Hills Master Review Committee. Chand’s value to the board could not be summarized better than his first words following his appointment: “I look forward to learning. I look forward to listening.” He cares about maintaining fiscal health and ensuring that our decisions keep Newtown on track. Chand has raised his family here in Newtown and has become part of the fabric of Newtown.

We hope readers will join us in support of both candidates.
