I am writing to support Debbie Aurelia Halstead for town clerk.

Debbie was born and raised in Newtown and knows Newtown probably more than anyone. She was an assistant town clerk for 2½ years, before becoming a certified town clerk who was appointed by First Selectman Herb Rosenthal and has been town clerk since 2007.

Debbie has had a long list of accomplishments as town clerk

Land records are scanned back to volume 132 and all 8,000+ survey maps can be viewed and printed online. Since the pandemic, approximately $47,000 in land record documents and maps have been purchased online.

Helped to lead Online Dog registration.

Fraud Alert registration for Land records.

Historic Documents Preservation Program — annually applying to the Historic Preservation grant to update land records and to maintain and repair old vital records and upgrade software and hardware. Since Debbie has been in office, Newtown has been awarded $100,000.
