NSA Fundraiser a Great Success

To the Editor:

On behalf of the Board of Governors of the Newtown Scholarship Association, we’d like to thank the generous friends of the NSA who made our October 17 Wine Tasting fundraiser a tremendous success. In particular, we’re grateful to People’s United Bank for sponsoring the event.

Our heartfelt thanks to Tim Currier and Annie Stiefel of Sticks and Stones Farm for providing the unique setting, and for their help planning the event and assuring that it ran smoothly. Thanks to Mike and Jill Kerler of Sandy Hook Wine & Liquors for donating the fabulous assortment of wines for the tasting, and for giving a portion of all sales from the event to the NSA. Students from Newtown High School’s Culinary program stole the show with their delectable hors d’oeuvres and professional service — special thanks go to Culinary’s Lori Hoagland and Brian Neumeyer for all the behind-the-scenes work. A round of applause to talented NHS students Matt Bodwell and Andrew Shugarts for providing the music.

A number of friends contributed wonderful items for the live and silent auctions. We’d especially like to acknowledge John and Jane Vouros of the Dana Holcombe House, Sarah Roman and Tim Rahr, Sage Steele, and Trevor Shaw. In addition, thank you to Starbucks, Newtown Florist, Healthy Pet, Newtown Car Wash, Villarina’s, Sal e Pepe, The Villa, Nick’s Restaurant of Danbury, Pizza Palace, Mona Lisa, New Wok, My Place, The Inn at Newtown, Toro, Panino’s, Andrea’s Pastry Shop, Bagel Delight, Susan Preis of Inspired Body, The Taunton Press, Paul Meisel, and Chad Steele. Thank you to artist Tarol Samuelson, who donated a portion of her sales that evening to the NSA.

Finally, thanks to everyone who attended the event! Because of your support, we’re able to award approximately $200,000 in need-based college scholarships each year to scores of high school graduates from Newtown, helping them fulfill their dreams of a higher education.

Sincerely,

Cheryl Clark
