Genevieve Bergin, 93, passed away October 22, 2026, in Saint Johns, Florida, surrounded by family.

Born February 26, 1933, in Bridgeport, Genevieve was a daughter of John Irving Mahoney and Mary Wargo.

After business school, Genevieve went on to a career in Human Resources at Avco Lycoming before eventually becoming an investigator with the IRS. It was at Avco that Genevieve found the love of her life and married Joseph Bergin in 1959. They shared a life in Methuen, Mass., for 35 years until his passing in 1994. They were avid travelers and enjoyed many social activities. After retirement, they would winter in the Sarasota area of Florida. After Joe’s death, Genevieve made Osprey, Florida her permanent home. She met many new friends there and even brought old friends along with her.

Genevieve was active in the United Church of Christ in both Methuen, Mass., and Sarasota, Fla. In her younger years, she was a Champion All Around Cowgirl and Queen of Connecticut. She participated in the New York City Rodeo in Madison Square Garden, where she met Roy Rogers, Dale Evans and Gene Autry. She was an avid golfer and loved to travel. On a fishing trip in Alaska, she caught a 400-pound halibut, securing the record for that fishing lodge. She never met a stranger. She had a quick wit and great sense of humor. Genevieve had a beautiful singing voice and was a member of church choirs from Massachusetts to Florida. She even sang at Sarasota Opera House. She earned the nickname “Songbird” from her fellow residents and staff at Silver Treasures of Saint Johns, where she enjoyed the last six years of her life.

Genevieve is survived by her sister, Liz Eaton of Sandy Hook; her stepdaughters, Lindy Conroe (Ken), Kathy Morton (Bill) and Laurie Marino (Tony); her grandchildren, Michael, Bethany, Christopher, Katie and Evan; her nieces and nephews, Joseph Rogers (Gwen), Jamie Annes, David Kosh, Mary Glisson (Donnie), and several great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her sister Maryann Kosh and brother-in-law Tom Eaton.

Genevieve’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of Silver Treasures Saint Johns for their loving care of her over the last six years.

Interment will take place in the spring at the Chapel at West Parish, Andover, Massachusetts.
