September 21, 1940 — October 17, 2023

Robert O’Brien, age 83, longtime resident of Sandy Hook, Connecticut, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, after an eighteen year battle with Parkinson’s disease.

A lover of family, music, gardening, birds, cookies and ice cream.

Bob greeted each day with strength and every person with patience, kindness and a smile, despite his ongoing battle.

Robert had a successful career in sales that included owning his own business, selling and installing central vacuums, shower doors and closet organizers, for over 30 years.

Some of his favorite memories included camping in Sebago, with family and friends that became family, walking through the Audubon Sanctuary in Southbury, and playing guitar with his friends.

Born to the late James J. and Beatrice Gaffney O’Brien of Hamden. Robert is survived by his loving wife of 59 years: Arlene (Coffin) O’Brien; a daughter: Jennifer O’Brien; five granddaughters: Kieren (Levy) Kline, Meghan Levy, Emily Dion, Brianna Levy, and Samantha Dion; and two great-granddaughters: Sophia Delgado and Ruby Polletta.

He is predeceased by his daughter: Kimberly (O’Brien) Levy; brothers: James and Patrick O’Brien; and sisters: Nancy Kenny and Alice Swiatek.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Rose Church on Monday, November 27th, 2023 at 11:30 am. Luncheon to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Robert’s honor be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation.
