Rides Available To Polls Tuesday
Newtown residents who need a ride to vote on Tuesday have at least two free options available to them.
Newtown Easy Transit provides dial-a-ride services to residents weekdays.
Registration is required. While those using the service for the first time usually need to file a Transportation Application before booking a reservation, Director of Human Services Natalie Griffith told The Newtown Bee on October 28 the paperwork can be done on Tuesday for those utilizing Newtown Easy Transit for the first time. Griffith’s department oversees the Newtown Easy Transit program.
Also, while reservations are generally required three business days in advance, Griffith and Transportation Coordinator Jennifer Faircloth will accept requests for rides to the polls as late as 2 pm Monday, November 2; call 203-270-4297.
Election Day rides will be scheduled between 9 am and 4 pm. Griffith cautioned those making a reservation for voting to be flexible with their requests.
“We already have the schedule partially filled for that day,” she said. “We’ll help everyone, we just need all those seeking rides to be patient with the timing.”
The Friends of Newtown Seniors Newtown Rides program is also available. Newtown Rides regularly offers rides Tuesdays through Thursdays between 9:30 am-12:30 pm and 11:30 am-2 pm.
Residents who are 55+ should call 203-430-0633 by end of day Friday to request a ride on Tuesday.
