State Boat Launch

Police report they found three youths over age 16 plus four people under 16 gathered about 10:40 pm October 23 at the state boat launch on Lake Lillinonah near the intersection of Hanover Road and Pond Brook Road.

Except for fishing, the area is posted as closed between sunset and sunrise, police said. Police issued violations to the three youths over 16 for violating the facility’s hours of operation. They are Brian J. Guidi, 17, of 45 Hucko Trail; Kyle Kromidas, 17, of 2 White Oak Farm Road; and Gregory Robert Peters, 18, of 9 Arrowhead Lane, police said.

Police contacted the parents of the four juveniles to tell them their children had violated state laws.

The fine for being at the boat launch after hours is $60. The three youths have November 5 court dates.

Currituck Road

Police learned about 5 pm October 24 that someone had thrown an object, breaking a window on a garage door at a Currituck Road home.  Police are investigating the vandalism and ask anyone with information to contact them at 426-5841.

Outboard Theft

Someone between October 17 and 21 stole a 3-horsepower Sears-Gamefisher outboard engine from a 13-foot aluminum boat kept at a home dock on Lake Lillinonah off Lake Road, police said. Police are investigating the fifth-degree larceny.

Mile Hill Road

Motorist Susan Russell, 28, of Danbury, who was driving a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee eastbound on Mile Hill Road about 5:45 pm October 27, attempted to turn right onto Route 34, but struck the rear end of a 1998 Volkswagen which was slowing down for traffic, police said. Motorist John Lott, 37, of Milford was driving the Jetta, police said.

There were no injuries. Police gave Russell a written warning for following too closely. Police gave Lott a verbal warning for failure to produce a motor vehicle registration certificate.

Toddy Hill Road

Police report a head-on crash between a dump truck and a sport-utility vehicle about 3:19 pm October 27 on Toddy Hill Road.

Motorist Christopher Capozziello, 34, of 12 Pilgrim Lane, who was driving a 1980 Autocar dump truck, turned left out of the Ashlar of Newtown driveway and was heading southbound on Toddy Hill Road, police said.

At that time, motorist Katalin Font, 27, of 4 Clear View Drive, who was driving a 1986 Isuzu Trooper, was northbound on Toddy Hill Road and then lost consciousness, allowing the northbound Isuzu to cross the road’s center line and enter the southbound lane.

The dump truck then came to a stop and the Isuzu drove into it head-on, police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Font and a passenger in the Isuzu, Ayla McInerney, 8, of 4 Clear View Drive to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said.

Police said Font was using the wrong lane and had seat belt violations.

MV Charges

Police report they issued three motor vehicle violations to Daniel J. Dobi, 42, of Fairfield on October 30.  Police said they saw Dobi driving on South Main Street about 3 pm with an expired emissions sticker. Police charged him with failure to renew an emissions sticker, operating a motor vehicle while under suspension, and failure to return a suspended license.

Dobi posted a $250 bond for a November 12 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Car Vs Tire

State police report that motorist Michael J. Bass, 45, of 10 Taunton Hill Road was driving a 1999 Pontiac westbound on Interstate-84 near Exit 9 about 8:50 am October 24 when the Pontiac was struck by a piece of a tire on the road which was kicked up by another vehicle. The impact caused hood, fender and door damage to the Pontiac. Bass was not injured.

Interstate Crash

State police report a two-vehicle crash on eastbound Interstate-84 east of Exit 11 about 2:30 pm October 25.

Police said a 1991 Mazda coupe driven by Jorge G. Flamengo, 23, of Oakville sideswiped a 1995 Jeep driven by Donna Mikolajczyk, 40, of New Milford. There were no injuries.

Bicyclist Struck

Police said bicyclist Michael Ottoshavett, 21, of Hattertown Road was traveling near the intersection of Meadow Brook Road and Washbrook Road about 7:45 pm October 29 when he was struck from behind by an auto which did not stop and left the scene.

Ottoshavett was transported to Danbury Hospital to be checked out, police said.

The vehicle, which struck the bicyclist, is described as a dark-colored car with a Connecticut marker plate, a loud muffler, a rounded rear end and rectangular tail lights.

Police ask anyone with information about the incident to call them at 426-5841.

 

Light Fixture Theft

Police said they learned October 30 that someone had stolen two brass light fixtures from a private driveway on Purdy Station Road sometime that morning. The fixtures are worth more than $500. Police ask anyone with information on the theft to contact them.

 Vandalism

Police said they received reports from several Ashford Lane residents on the night of November 3 that someone was driving through their neighborhood in a large pickup truck and running down mailboxes and garbage cans. One resident supplied police with the marker plate number of the truck.

Police said they located Eric Ainley, 17, of 55 Botsford Hill Road at his home and found fresh damage on the truck. Police said they charged Ainley with third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and a stop sign violation. Police released Ainley on a promise to appear November 16 in Danbury Superior Court.
