Ambulance Corps To Provide Free Emergency Training For Food Establishments

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance is offering an opportunity for local food service establishments on November 13 to help the town have a safe holiday season.

Members of the volunteer ambulance corps are dedicating the afternoon and evening of November 13 to provide an educational overview of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the Heimlich maneuver to the owners and employees of every eating establishment in Newtown.

This free program is intended to enable the staffs of these businesses to have hands-on learning as well as important information on how to recognize an emergency and how to react. Each class will last two hours and will be offered at different times. The first class is 2 to 4 pm, the second from 4 to 6 pm, and the third from 6 to 8 pm. This course will be an overview; it will not fulfill requirements for certification.

“We strongly encourage all those employed in restaurants, diners, coffee shops, and delis to join us on November 13 for two hours of valuable community service. Help us keep the people of Newtown safe during the upcoming holiday season,” said a corps spokesperson.

Those who are interested in the program should call one of the members of the corps’ community training committee and leave a message indicating how many people will attend. The committee members are Susan Cameron at 270-8315 and Debby Aubin, 426-6874.
