Due to an overnight storm that has left many roads in Newtown closed after trees and/or wires fell in high winds and rain, Newtown schools have been closed for the day.

As a result, a few ny athletic events that had been scheduled for today have been rescheduled.

Plans for the following events have all been changed:

*NHS Football, which was to host Stratford tonight, will instead play at 7 pm Saturday, November 2; and

*Volleyball at East Lyme has been postponed, with a makeup date TBD (the NHS website, nighthawksports.com, notes that match may have been canceled).

According to a tweet from @NHSAthletics, The CIAC Cross Country Open Championship meet, scheduled to begin at 2:45 this afternoon at Wickham Park in Manchester, is scheduled to begin as planned. The Boys and Girls teams are both scheduled to compete at that event.

Also, the Girls Soccer match at Masuk High School in Monroe will still begin at 3:45 this afternoon.

Additinally, the Field Hockey CIAC Tournament quarterfinals will be at 3 pm Saturday, at Newtown High School. That contest had originally been planned for 4, but was moved to 3; its change is unrelated to the storm, however.
