SCAN’s Annual Holiday Art Show & Sale, 10 am-5 pm, Newtown Meeting House (lower level), 31 Main Street, free admission, framed paintings and portfolios by members of Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN), Inc, opening reception is 6-8 pm Friday, show continues through November 11; 264-3414 (show chairman Laura Clough).

Opening night Annual St Rose Christmas Craft Fair, 6-10 pm, St Rose Parish Hall, 46 Church Hill Road, works by professional artisans, also homemade baked goods, hot food & refreshments, photos with Santa, children’s games, more, fair continues through November 11.

Performances continue of The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds, curtain 8 pm, The Little Theatre, Orchard Hill Road, tickets $10. Town Players is presenting Paul Zindel’s Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Friday and Saturday evenings (plus Sunday afternoon, November 18) through November 24; 270-9144.

Veterans’ Day Ceremonies, 11 am, VFW/American Legion Post, Tinkerfield Road.

Newtown Hook and Ladder Volunteer Fire Company Open House, 11 am-3 pm, Hook and Ladder Firehouse, 45 Main Street, new ladder truck on display, emergency drills conducted, thermal imaging cameras will be demonstrated, refreshments served.

Final day St Rose Christmas Craft Fair, 10 am-2 pm, St Rose Parish Hall, 46 Church Hill Road, see details under November 9.

“Author! Author! – Joanna Cole and Bruce Degen,” 2 pm, C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street, free program by the author and illustrator of popular Magic School Bus children’s book series will include slide program and book signing of newest release, Ms Frizzle’s Adventures: Ancient Egypt; 426-4533.
