Set For November

DANBURY — Breathing better is a big issue for many lung disease patients in the greater Danbury area. To address this burgeoning need, Danbury Hospital Medical Town Meetings for the month of November focus on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung cancer, and using complementary medicine treatments to relieve pain and feel better.

*November 8, 7 pm: Learn More, Breathe Better: Living with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. A panel of pulmonary disease physician experts and respiratory therapy specialists provide answers to your questions about the diagnosis and treatment of COPD. In addition, free pulmonary function screenings will be offered prior to the meeting from 6 to 7 pm. No RSVP necessary, first-come, first-served.

*November 14, 7 pm: Understanding Integrative Medicine Approaches to Pain and Well-Being. Mitchell Prywes, MD, board certified in rehabilitation medicine, medical acupuncture, and pain management, will discuss how traditional medicine and complementary medicine can be combined to treat pain and promote well being. This multimedia presentation will include a discussion of acupuncture, low-level laser therapy, nutritional supplements, and mind-body strategies for the treatment of neck and back pain, arthritis, and fibromyalgia. He will be joined by Beth Aaronson, MD, chief of the Section of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at Danbury Hospital, and Peggy Gilmore, RN, BSN, complementary medicine coordinator at Danbury Hospital.

*November 27, 7 pm: Living with Lung Cancer. Michael Walker, MD, chief of the Section of Thoracic Surgery at Danbury Hospital, discusses breakthrough treatments can give new hope to lung cancer patients.

The meetings takes place in the John C. Creasy Center for Health Education auditorium at Danbury Hospital from 7 to 8:30 pm. Park free in the blue visitor’s parking lot, Hospital Avenue entrance.
