Sandy Hook Man Arrested On Child Pornography Charges

Watertown police have arrested a Sandy Hook Man on child pornography charges stemming from a police investigation into the contents of the man’s computer hard drive.

Watertown police Lieutenant Robert Desena said this week that police arrested Michael Lucas, III, 59, of 4 Philo Curtis Road, Sandy Hook, on a warrant last week, charging him with one count each of first-degree possession of child pornography and importing child pornography. Both charges are felonies.

Watertown police began their investigation in July 2006, when police seized Lucas’ computer after learning from an unidentified person that the computer contained images of child pornography, the lieutenant said.

Lucas moved from Watertown at some point after his computer was seized by police.

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Lucas surrendered to them at the Watertown police station.

Lt Desena, who heads the detective bureau, said that Lucas’s computer contained approximately 175 images of child pornography, some of which depicted minors engaged in sexual acts.

Five of the images found on Lucas’s computer depicted children who are listed in a database operated by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the lieutenant said.

Watertown police had the state police computer experts analyze the data found on Lucas’s computer as part of the investigation.

Police released Lucas from custody on $50,000 bail for a November 6 arraignment in Waterbury Superior Court.
