uNo. 12 Boston College defeated the No. 1 Wake Forest men’s soccer team, 1-0, on Saturday night in Chestnut Hill. Alejandro Bedoya scored the lone goal in the 21st minute. The Demon Deacons dropped to 12-1-2 overall and 4-1-1 in the ACC. Marcus Tracy (NHS ’05) managed two shots in the game. On the season, he has six goals and six assists.

uIn the annual Blue-Orange meet for the Bucknell women’s swimming and diving team Abigail Atkinson (NHS ’05), swimming for the Blue team, finished second in the 100 breaststroke at 1:09.52, second in the 200 breaststroke at 2:28.70, first in the 200 individual medley at 2:12.35 and helped lead the 200 medley relay team to a first-place finish by a mere 44/100ths of a second over the Orange … which captured the meet, 126-123. The Lady Bisons will open the regular season on Saturday in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, against Duquesne.

uIn a 34-27 double overtime loss to Iowa State on Saturday, Josh Rouse (Valley Forge Military Academy ‘06) of the Michigan State University football team appeared on defense and registered an assisted tackle. It came in the third quarter, with the Spartans on top, 17-10. On first and 10 from the Michigan 34, Jevon Pugh of Iowa had a two-yard run and was stopped by Rouse and Jonal Dic-Saint.

uSally Tabler (NHS ’07) of the Depauw University women’s swimming & diving team finished second in the 200 butterfly (2:19.61) and second in the 200 individual medley (2:21.05) to help lead the Lady Tigers to a 161-114 season-opening win over Centre. In a 155-129 loss to Washington University in St. Louis over the weekend, Tabler helped lead the 200 medley relay team to a second-place finish and then finished third in the 200 butterfly (2:18.95), second in the 200 breaststroke (2:34.70) and fifth in the 200 individual medley (2:20.18).

uAfter two years patrolling the net, Kim Allen (NHS ’05) has hit the court for the Castleton State College and earlier this month was named the North Atlantic Conference women’s tennis Rookie of the Week. Allen, who was a top tennis player at Newtown High School, plays at No. 1 doubles and No. 3 singles for the Lady Spartans and in a match against Plymouth State recorded an 8-0 win (with partner Jamie Olson) at doubles and then recorded a 6-0, 6-0 singles win.

uWith a 1-1 draw against Iona and a 1-0 win over Manhattan, the Fairfield University women’s soccer team improved to 9-6-2 overall and 4-1-1 in the Metro-Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). Casey Frobey (NHS ’06) had the assist on the goal that forced the tie with Iona and now has eight goals and an assist on the season. The game against Manhattan was a reunion, of sorts, for Frobey, former teammate Alex Konneker (NHS ’06) and former Newtown High School head soccer coach Rupert de los Reyes, now an assistant at Manhattan.

uRyan McGrath (NHS ’07) singled for the Black Squad in Game #4 of the annual Wake Forest baseball Black & Gold World Series. The traditional series wraps up the fall training program for the baseball program. In Game #3 of the series, McGrath pitched two innings and was reached for three runs on five hits.

uThe Montclair State men’s soccer team, the defending New Jersey Athletic Conference champion, received a first-round bye in the conference tournament and as the No. 2 seed hosted a semifinal matchup on Wednesday, October 31, against No. 6 Rowan. In the final game of the regular season, the Red Hawks topped Ramapo, 2-0. Brian Miles (NHS ’05) has a goal and five assists for the 15-2-1 Hawks.

uWith four wins in five matches to close out the regular season, the Emmanuel College women’s volleyball team improved to 10-21 overall. Diana Grimaldi (NHS’ 06) has appeared in 87 games and has registered 68 kills with a team-high 325 assists, 14 service aces, 124 digs and 26 blocks. The last two wins of the season were 3-0 sweeps of Saint Joseph’s and Albertus Magnus.

uThe Gettysburg College women’s soccer team came up short in its bid to clinch the No. 4 seed and a first-round game at home in the Centennial Conference playoffs, dropping a 1-0 decision at Muhlenberg College in the regular season finale for both teams. The loss forced the Bullets to visit Haverford College in the opening round on Wednesday. Tara Gaston (NHS ’06) has appeared, and started, all 18 games for the Lady Bullets.

uA very youthful Coast Guard Academy women’s soccer team battled each and every time out, but the Bears managed just 11 goals in 16 games as they finished the season 1-15 overall and 0-9 in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). Meredith Palo (Canterbury School ’07) appeared, and started, all 16 games and finished with a goal.

uThe Gettysburg College men’s soccer deefeated McDaniel College, 3-2, and secured the fourth seed for the upcoming Centennial League tournament. Brian Conroy (NHS ’07) has appeared in three games for the Bullets.

uJosh Tenenbaum (NHS ’06) appeared in his third game last weekend for the Bentley College football team, a 52-6 rout of St. Anselm. Bentley improved to 6-2.

uThe Keene State University men’s cross country team captured second at the Little East Conference championships and freshman Eric Macknight (NHS ’07) finished seventh overall at 25:41.

uSenior diver CJ Maurer (NHS ‘04) finished second in the three-meter diving 254.33 points and then finished fifth in the one-meter diving with 217.95 points as the St. Bonaventure men’s swimming & diving team dropped a 148-95 decision to the University of Pittsburgh last weekend. In a 163-74 win over Duquesne to open the season, Maurer finished first in the three-meter diving with 240.83 points and first in the one-meter diving with 229.57 points. The Bonnies will be at Cleveland State on Friday before hosting Michigan State on November 8.

uGoing 0-3-2 in their last five games (without scoring a goal), the Quinnipiac University women’s soccer team dropped to 9-5-2 overall. Kyla Miles (NHS (’07) has appeared in 15 games, starting 11. In a 0-0 draw with Wagner last Friday in Hamden, Miles has five of the 28 Lady Bobcats’ shots and one was on net.

uThree consecutive home losses have dropped the Quinnipiac University women’s volleyball team to 1-25 overall. Stephanie Logan (NHS ’04) has appeared in 21 of the 26 matches, with 66 games played, and has registered 127 kills, 21 service aces, 58 digs and 32 blocks.

uFreshman Nick Maurer was the starting flanker last Sunday as the St. Bonaventure Outlaws defeated Colgate, 37-18, for the New York State Rugby Division II championship. The Bonnies will be the #4 seed for the upcoming Northeast Rugby Union tournament and will host the University of Vermont on Sunday, November 3. A win will propel the Bonnies into the Final Four on November 10/11 at West Point. The Bonnies, ranked 11th in the nation while out-scoring their opponents 308-57, improved to 7-0.
