We lovingly remember Richard “Allen” Eddy Jr, who passed away on October 22, 2023, at the age of 72.

Born in Bridgeport to parents Richard and Gladys Eddy, Allen grew up in Newtown. He graduated from Newtown High and Western Connecticut State University. He learned the value of community service as a Boy Scout and member of the US Air Force.

He served his community of Bridgewater as a volunteer firefighter, EMT, Bridgewater Fair volunteer, and member of St Mark’s Episcopal Church.

Allen worked as an electrical engineer, software developer, and paraeducator and math tutor in his last and most joyful job.

Allen was a wonderful husband, loving father, and committed son to his late mother Gladys and late mother-in-law Grace. Affectionately known as “Papa,” “Big Al,” and “Chief High Schmengie Leader of Mental Intelligence,” everyone knew him for his wacky sense of humor and shenanigans. He found joy in teaching his students at Shepaug Schools and loved tennis, puzzle games, and coming up with crazy ways to make his family and friends laugh.

Music was part of his soul. He enthusiastically participated in his local music community as a Litchfield Jazz Festival volunteer, cheerleader for his daughters’ musical pursuits, and diehard groupie for his friends’ bands.

Allen will be missed by the love of his life Karen, wife of 45 years, daughter Allison and her children Isaac and Eleanor, daughter Lauren and her husband Kyle, and brother David and his wife Mary.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at St Mark’s Episcopal Church in Bridgewater on Saturday, November 18, at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St Mark’s Episcopal Church.
