The Outlooks From Audubon Center

SOUTHBURY — Lillinonah Audubon Society is planning a “Three Outlook Hike” on Saturday, November 17, at the Bent of the River Nature Center in Southbury. The walk will be lead by John Longstreth, director of the center, who will take the group to three outlooks, two of which are new, that afford views from the ridge in three different directions.

Now that the leaves are off the trees the vistas should be spectacular. Scalo’s Overlook faces north and west, into Newtown and Bridgewater; it is located at the end of Sachem’s Ridge. Eagle Overlook was cut very recently by prospective Eagle Scout Adam Bellotti, with help from the members of his troop. The overlook offers views of Pomperaug Valley, including Platt Farm.

The hike will take about 2½ hours. Participants should bring binoculars and water, and wear sturdy and waterproof shoes. The group will meet at the parking lot at Bent of the River Audubon Center, 185 East Flat Hill Road in South Britain, at 1 pm.

The public is welcome and there is no charge. Call John Longstreth of 264-5098 for additional information or to sign up for the program.
