Library Sculpture Exhibit Runs To Dec. 2

Former Newtown resident Rosemary Barrett has brought several of her sculpture pieces back to Newtown for an exhibit at the C.H. Booth Library. The exhibit will be at the library until December 2.

The pieces are on their way to being bronzes, according to Ms Barrett. She has been sculpting for four years and currently lives in Kent.

Ms Barrett has also been selected to design an ornament for the White House Christmas tree. Three artists from each state are selected to create an ornament that displays something on the historical register. Ms Barrett has chosen a home, Seven Hearths in Kent.

“It represents the average person,” she said. “It’s a historical house.”

One of the pieces patrons can view at the library is that of Sojourner Truth. Another is a cube with the world surrounded by hands and animals.

“It represents our unity in the world and how intertwined we are,” she said.

The exhibit is on the main floor of the library. Patrons may view the sculptures during regular library hours.
