Wright M.        Van Tassell

Wright M. Van Tassell, 85, husband of Ida (Brundage) Van Tassell of 45 Berkshire Road, Sandy Hook, died November 2 in Danbury Hospital.

Mr Van Tassell was born in Chappaqua, N.Y., October 17, 1916, son of the late Joseph and Katherine Van Tassell. A resident of Sandy Hook since 1956, Mr Van Tassell was employed as a heavy equipment operating engineer, retiring in 1978.

Following his retirement, Mr Van Tassell opened the Van Tassell Toll House and Antique Shop in Sandy Hook. He was a member of the Operating Engineer Local No 478 union.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a machinist mate in the US Navy (Seabees), in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He also was a member of VFW Post 149 in Danbury.

He is survived, besides his wife, by one daughter, Virginia Sherwood of Sandy Hook; three grandchildren, Rebecca Ferris, Thomas Sherwood and Robert Sherwood; and four great-grandchildren, Courtney and Sean Ferris and Melissa and Elizabeth Sherwood.

Funeral services were held at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, on November 4.  Cremation was at Mountain Grove Crematory in Bridgeport.
