Margaret Cassin

Margaret “Margie” Tyrrell Cassin, 83, cherished wife of Thomas Cassin for 59 years, dedicated mother of Thomas Francis Cassin of Newtown, Conn.; Barbara Ellen Yeager of Ellington, Conn.; and Margaret (Peggy) Cassin of Bethel, Conn., died at home on November 3, 2019, surrounded by her family.

Margie was born in New York City, April 10, 1936, daughter of Thomas and Ellen Tyrrell, of the Bronx and Warwick, N.Y. She was a former employee of Manhattan College in New York City and Trinity Church in Newtown, Conn. Margie was a member of the Legion of Mary at Holy Spirit parish in the Bronx and was a Eucharistic Minister, Religious Education Teacher, and member of the Prayer Shawl Committee at St Rose Church in Newtown, Conn.

Throughout her life, Margie was generous and steadfast in her nurturing of others. Margie was committed to the teachings of Jesus Christ and exemplified them in her daily life. She consistently maintained a warm and welcoming home. Her creative talents and her attention to detail were evident in her professional work and are elaborately shown in her colorful stitcheries, which are individualized recordings of special events in the lives of family and friends.

In addition to her devoted husband, Tom, and their three caring children, Margie is survived by her son-in-law, Scott Yeager, and three loving grandchildren, Thomas Cassin, Ryan Cassin, and Colin Yeager.

Margaret was predeceased by her sister-in-law, Philomena Tyrrell of Warwick, N.Y., and brother, Thomas Tyrrell of Willingboro N.J., and is survived by his wife, Anna Tyrrell of Mt Laurel, N.J.; Margie’s brother, John J. Tyrrell of Venice, Fla.; her two sisters, Anne McGowan and her husband, James, of Mahwah, N.J., and Mary Catherine McEvoy and her husband, Robert, of New Fairfield, Conn.; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and their families.

Calling hours are on Thursday, November 7, 2019, from 4 to 7 pm at Honan Funeral Home, Newtown, Conn. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 8, 2019, at 11 am at St Rose of Lima Church, Newtown, Conn. Interment at St Rose Cemetery will follow the mass.
