Veterans Day on Monday, November 11, will have an effect on local offices and businesses. Many entities will be closed in observance of the federal holiday.

All town offices will be closed on Monday.

Newtown Senior Center and C.H. Booth Library will also be closed on Monday.

The transfer station at the former landfill on Ethan Allen Road will be closed on Monday.

Veterans Day is a postal holiday, so there will be no mail delivery, and USPS offices will be closed on Monday.

VFW Post 308 will host its annual Veterans Day ceremony, Monday, November 11, at 11 am. Post 308 is at 18 Tinkerfield Road, off Mile Hill South. The public is encouraged to attend this program honoring veterans of the American Armed Forces. For more information, call 203-426-9316.

Newtown High School and American Legion Post 202 will also be hosting a special event. Lunch prepared by the NHS Culinary Arts students will be served at 11, with a program to follow at 12:15.

Dr Sean Lee will be the guest speaker for the program, which will also include music by the NHS Singers and NHS Wind Ensemble. Reservations are requested by November 1 for the luncheon (contact Carrie Bennett at bennettc@newtown.k12.ct.us or 203-426-7648), but are not needed for the program.

The office of The Newtown Bee, 5 Church Hill Road, will be open on Monday, November 11.
