Overtimes, PKs Continue At Newtown High

By Andy Hutchison

Perhaps Newtown High School’s Blue and Gold Stadium should be renamed OT and PK Stadium.

Beginning with the South-West Conference field hockey and boys’ soccer quarterfinals on October 24, the field has been host to several overtime- and penalty kick/stroke-loaded games.

First, the Newtown and Joel Barlow field hockey teams played three overtimes and a round of penalty strokes. Then, the NHS and Barlow boys’ soccer teams played double overtime and three rounds of PKs.

Blue and Gold hosted the SWC boys’ soccer semifinals and both of those games went to OT (one went to penalty kicks). Then, in their first round state tournament games, both the NHS boys’ and girls’ soccer teams played double overtime and had to decide things in penalty kicks this past Monday and Tuesday, respectively.
