Newtown Parks & Recreation announced its list of winners and honorable mentions for the Third Annual Scarecrow Contest on October 31.

The public was invited to cast their votes in the ballot box located inside Newtown Community Center from October 25 to 28.

The 24 scarecrows were handmade by local groups as well as individual residents and their families.

Winners were UK Gourmet, #63, for Most Original Scarecrow; The Newtown Bee, #91, for Newtown Pride Scarecrow; and Newtown Veterinary Specialists (NVS), #12, for People’s Choice Scarecrow.

Honorable mentions included Edmond Town Hall, #34; Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard, #61; and Newtown Allies for Change, #108.

Newtown Parks and Recreation released a statement to participants via e-mail on October 31 that read, “Thank you for your creativity, hard work, and contribution to making this an enchanting seasonal event! We appreciate the time you devoted to your works of art and can’t wait to see you again next year.”

Rose Ann Reggiano, Assistant Director of Recreation for Newtown Parks & Recreation, reflected on this year’s contest and told The Newtown Bee on November 2, “The overall response was wonderful. People loved it, and I’ve heard people are already thinking about what to make next year. It was beautiful.”
