Field Hockey Earns Top Seed As State Tournament Seedings, Brackets Are Announced

Update: There are two start time changes. The November 11 volleyball match is at 5:30 and November 12 girls' soccer game moved to 4 pm.

The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference announced seedings and brackets for soccer, field hockey, and volleyball high school state tournaments. The details for Newtown are as follows:

Girls’ soccer: Seeded 13th in the Class LL bracket, the Nighthawks begin at home when they take on No. 20 Simsbury in the first round, on Tuesday, November 12, beginning at 4 pm. The winner heads to No. 4 St. Joseph of Trumbull in the second round, set for Thursday, November 14, also at 2 pm.

Boys’ soccer: Seeded 27th in LL, the Nighthawks travel to No. 6 Xavier of Middletown on Monday, November 11 for a 2 pm contest to begin the tourney. The winner takes on either No. 11 Hamden or No 22 Newington two days later, also at 2 pm.

Field hockey: Seeded first in the Class L bracket, Newtown hosts the winner of No. 16 Simsbury and No. 17 Hamden in the first round on Wednesday, November 13 at 5 pm. The winner advances to the quarterfinal to take on the winner of No. 8 Glastonbury and No. 9 Norwalk in the November 15 or 16 quarterfinals (to be announced).

Girls’ volleyball: No. 19 Newtown travels to Westport to take on No. 14 Staples in the Class LL first round, on Monday, November 11, at 5:30 pm. The winner competes in the second round against either No. 3 Westhill of Stamford or No. 30 Stamford in the second round on Thursday, November 14, at 6 pm.
