The Sandy Hook Organization for Prosperity (SHOP) is getting ready for the holiday season, and the public is invited to join in two special offerings.

The 2023 Annual Tree Lighting is planned for Saturday, December 2, at 6 pm, in Sandy Hook Center. This is a fun, family-friendly outdoor event.

Festivities will begin at 4 pm. Santa Claus will be meeting children of all ages as of 5 pm, while karaoke fills the air with holiday music. Following the tree lighting at 6, caroling will continue the special event.

SHOP is also continuing its tradition of letting a member of the public have the honor of lighting the tree. Each person who arrives with a nonperishable donation for FAITH Food Pantry will be entered in a drawing to light the tree.

Donations should be given to Santa, and one of his elves will provide raffle tickets in return.

For more information about SHOP and the event visit SandyHookVillage.com or find SHOP on Facebook (@ExperienceSandyHook), Instagram (@s.h.o.p.sandyhookvillage) and/or Twitter (@SHOPSandyHook).

Adopt-A-Lamppost

Ahead of the tree lighting, SHOP is working on its Annual Adopt-A-Lamppost Decorating Day.

Families, businesses, organizations, et al are invited to “adopt” a lamppost within Sandy Hook Center.

There are 57 small poles available, each for a $75 adoption fee; and six large poles, each $125, all within the business district of Church Hill Road, Glen Road, Riverside Road and Washington Avenue.

Adoption fees include roping, a bow, lights, and an oversize customizable gift tag to display. Those planning to participate on Decorating Day are asked to bring their own step ladder if possible.

Decorating Day will be Sunday, November 26, at 10 am sharp, at Heritage Park, 7 Glen Road.

This is a fun, family-friendly outdoor event that offers participants a chance to decorate their selected lamppost.

Members of SHOP will be on hand to demonstrate the proper way to wrap a lamppost to withstand the windy weather of the season.

The adoption process is an online-only event. Sales are on a first-come, first-served basis and can be made via a credit card, debit card, or PayPal account.
