The Newtown Rotary Club is currently working on two fundraising events.

The first is the returning Pancake Breakfast, a Newtown tradition more than three score years in the making.

For the 62nd year, Newtown Rotary Club will serve a pancake breakfast cooked up by members of the club.

This year’s breakfast is planned for Saturday, December 3, from 8 am until noon, in the Alexandria Room of Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 children. Tickets can be purchased at the door that morning, and will also be available closer to December 3 at newtownctrotary.org.

The menu will follow the traditional fresh pancakes, real syrup from Maple Craft Foods, sausage from Butcher’s Best, and coffee from BD Provisions.

Even during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, local Rotarians made sure local residents who enjoyed at least one annual breakfast of fresh pancakes with real maple syrup were able to continue their tradition. The club provided takeout breakfast kits in 2020.

Restaurant Raffle

Meanwhile, ticket sales continue for Rotary’s newest fundraiser, the Thirty For Twenty Restaurant Raffle. On the table for this new event are collections of $100 gift certificates from 30 local restaurants.

First place is 15 restaurant gift cards, second place is ten restaurant gift cards, and third place is five gift cards.

Rotary Club of Newtown President Alex Villamil is excited about the new offering.

“We’re excited to introduce this raffle to Newtown,” he told The Newtown Bee in late August. For a very reasonable cost, he said, anyone can have the opportunity to win gift certificates to multiple local restaurants.

“We are limiting sales to 2,000 tickets so the more tickets that you buy, the better your chances are at winning,” Villamil noted.

The Rotary Club president sees the new offering as a win-win for all involved.

“Participants get a chance to win, restaurants get exposure through our advertising, and all net proceeds from this raffle go to town local causes and organizations such as The Newtown Rotary Scholarship Fund, Newtown Community Center, The High School Book Project, Newtown Parent Connection, Dorothy Day Hospitality House, and more,” he said.

Tickets are $20 each, available through the local club’s website, newtownctrotary.org. Members are also selling tickets at public locations in town on Saturday mornings.

Villamil told The Newtown Bee recently that members plan to be available before every movie at Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street; and on Saturday mornings in November at Bagel Delight, 30 Church Hill Road; Dodgingtown Market & Deli, 57 Dodgingtown Road; and Dunkin Donuts, 6 Queen Street. Check the club’s Facebook page (Newtown CT Rotary Club) for updated listings.

The winning tickets will be drawn at 11:30 am during Rotary’s Annual Pancake Breakfast.
