The Resiliency Center of Newtown at 153 South Main Street has announced that Samantha Denzel, MA, has joined the team at the local nonprofit organization that offers creative arts therapies, community wellness programs, and specialized trauma therapies to those impacted by the tragic events of December 14, 2012.

Denzel completed her Master of Arts degree in clinical art therapy and counseling at Long Island University.

She has clinical experience providing both talk and art therapy to children, adolescents, adults, families, and groups.

Denzel has worked in various mental health environments including outpatient, acute inpatient, partial hospitalization, and schools. She has experience providing therapy for a range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, anger, grief and loss, substance abuse, and trauma.

By integrating these wide-ranging experiences, Denzel uses a eclectic approach to meet her clients’ needs, employing a humanistic/person-centered philosophy with her passion for helping people to reach their highest potential.

She firmly believes in the inherent healing power of art and creativity.

“Samantha has an unwavering passion for encouraging growth, healing, self-expression, and self-awareness through the power of art making and the creative process,” according to Beth Hegarty, MBA, the center’s client relations and administrative support specialist.

Hegarty also announced a new program being offered by Denzel beginning November 17.

The program, “Coping with COVID — Skills, Creativity & Connection for Teens,” will run five Tuesdays from 7 to 7:45 pm. Attendees will have the choice to attend in-person at RCN (small group format according to CDC guidelines) or from the comfort of their home via Zoom.

The program is specifically for teens aged 14 to 18, and the registration fee of $25 is payable by check or cash. RSVP to Hegarty at beth@resiliencycenterofnewtown.org or 203-364 9750.
