A Thought On The Future Of 19 Main Street

To the Editor:

I’ve been reading with interest about [the Inn at Newtown, Mary Hawley’s homestead] controversy and what is to become of that location. While understanding both sides of the discussion, I want to side with attorneys Hall and DaSilva in wanting to preserve the historic appearance of Newtown center.

Traveling has kept me from attending any of the meetings, so I’d like to offer a thought for a possible solution. Years ago, my travels for the foundry industry took me to a town in Minnesota and a place called the Lavender Inn. It was a genuine country store on one side and an inn on the other. Maybe a similar thing could be done in Newtown. A Vermont-type country store and a Bed and Breakfast/Inn.

It would be a nice attraction for the town, as well as a place for Newtowners to have family or friends stay over.

Just a thought. I hope it will be given some consideration.
