George F. Lockwood Sr

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved, George F. Lockwood, Sr (Pudge), who passed away on November 12 following a long illness.

George was born June 10, 1936, in Sandy Hook, to Earl M. Lockwood and Ruth Ingram. He was the sixth child of 13. He was a member of the SACS boys club when he was young. George attended Henry Abbott Tech School. He joined the Army in 1954 and served in the Korean War.

George was a member of VFW Post 308, The Catholic War Veterans of Danbury, Port Five in Bridgeport, and the CT Fire Marshals Assoc. He had also been a member of Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company for 71 years and was a Life Member.

George was a deputy Fire Marshal for the Town of Newtown for over 20 years and also served briefly as a full-time Fire Marshal for the Town. He retired from Anaconda American Brass in Waterbury after 30 years.

George was an avid deer hunter in his younger years with his brother Harold and best friends, John Mesaric and Rob Mitchell.

George is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carol (Skirkanich) Lockwood; sons, George F. Lockwood, Jr and Garret (Donna); daughter Karen Pratt-Szilagyi (Stephen); grandchildren Garret, Stacey, Emily, Adam, Jillian and Carsten; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Flo Erickson, Linda (John) Barry, Jean Knoche, sisters-in-law, Jane Lockwood and Joyce Skronski; his favorite cousin, Mabel (George) Phillips, and many nieces and nephews.

George was predeceased by his parents, daughters Rebecca and Cheryl, five sisters, and four brothers.

Our family would like to give a special thanks to his grandson Adam, who went above and beyond taking care of his grandfather for the past three months. He was a Godsend to our Dad.

Friends may call Sunday, November 19, from 2-6 pm, at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street in Newtown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Rose of Lima Church at 10:30 am Monday, November 20. Interment to follow at St Rose Cemetery. A reception will take place after the funeral at the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue main station.
