If you enjoy seeing houses lit up in their winter finery, become a member of the “Newtown Holiday Lights Map & Contest” group on Facebook. We provide a free map and driving directions to the best holiday homes in Newtown. Everyone, from families with young children to senior citizens, can delight in the displays of the season from the warmth of their car.

The fourth annual Newtown Holiday Lights Map & Contest is currently enrolling homes for the 2019 contest. A large metal barn star on a stake will be placed on the front lawn of winning homes. There is no entry fee for entering a house, and each winning home will be awarded a keepsake star-shaped ornament. The barn stars must be returned for reuse.

The entire event is free. It’s a gift from the town to the town.

There is also a sign-up list to become one of the judges of this year’s contest. All-Star Transportation provides a free school bus and a volunteer driver to take the “Christmas Critics” around the night of judging. Judging will be on Saturday, December 21, starting at 4:30 pm, weather permitting.

Members of the group can post photos of their Christmas tree for a Best Indoor Tree Award.
