Nighthawk Swimmers Compete In State Championships

Newtown High School’s girls’ swimming and diving team competed in the Class LL state championships with the diving competition in Middletown on November 13 and the swimming events at Wesleyan University in Middletown on November 19. Newtown placed 11th with 206 points. Cheshire won the competition with 655.

The Nighthawks were led by a fourth-place finish from the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Caroline Mahoney, Norah Kolb, Payton Bradley, and Shayna Millard, who finished in a time of 1:40.27.

Newtown’s 200 medley relay team of Mahoney, Cate Fischer, Olivia Renkert, and Kolb was tenth in 1:53.69.

Mahoney placed eighth in the 50 free in 24.92.

The top diving performance by the Nighthawks was turned in by Hannah Weatherby with a 17th-place outcome and score of 308.15.

Mahoney came in 15th in the 100 backstroke, making her final touch in 1:00.77.

The 400 free relay of Mopsey Seaver, Fischer, Bradley, and Millard came in 13th in 3:49.17.
