The National Weather Service (NWS) in New York has issued a Red Flag Warning for southern Connecticut, including Fairfield County, and Long Island from 10 am to 6 pm Sunday. The weather service has also issued a Wind Advisory for the same area for Sunday from 6 am to 6 pm.

With the Red Flag Warning, sustained wind speeds will frequently be 25-30 mph in combination with relative humidity values around 25%.

According to NWS, these locations have the best chance of seeing gusts to 45 mph which could bring down tree limbs and cause isolated power outages. Downed tree limbs and power outages are possible, according to the weather service.

The strongest northwest winds are expected to occur from late morning through late afternoon Sunday.

These conditions could also lead to the rapid spread of a wildfire if ignition occurs.

According to NWS the combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and dry fuels will create "explosive fire growth potential."
