Newtown High School Marching Band & Guard members visited Reed Intermediate School on November 14 to inspire new members.

“Performing at Reed is always a great event,” said NHS Director of Bands Aaron Ovsiew. “These students represent the future of the NHS band and guard and we are excited to welcome them soon, for the next four, five, or maybe even six years.”

For the event, Reed fifth and sixth grade students gathered outside the school to watch the NHS Marching Band & Guard perform.

Ovsiew introduced the group and several band members spoke about what the program meant to them and how they have grown as musicians.

Seventh grade Newtown Middle School student Emily Anderson shared that she watched the band perform last year when she was at Reed and told the younger students that being in the band would teach them everything they need to know.

The performance concluded with displays from each section of the band and guard, a demonstration of the on-field props, and a final performance of its 2022 program, “The Circles All Around Us,” which earned Newtown a State Championship and bronze medal at National Championships this season.

Ovsiew thanked Reed band directors Phillip Beierle and Robert Nolte, and all of the Reed administration, faculty, and staff for hosting the NHS Marching Band & Guard.
