Rear Ended At Head O’Meadow

Newtown Police report Si Thu Aung, 36, of Bethel, operating a 2016 Lexus IS 300, was traveling westbound on Sugar Street at 7:10 pm November 8. She was traveling behind a 2016 Hyundai Elantra operated by Gregory Churchill, 26, of Bethel. Churchill stopped in traffic to wait for eastbound traffic to clear, and make a left turn onto Head O’ Meadow Road. Aung followed closely behind, and attempted to stop and turn onto the right shoulder to avoid a collision. Aung’s vehicle struck the rear of Churchill’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was mentioned in the report.

Suspended License

Newtown Police report Victor Stendbergh, 35, of Newtown, operating a 2018 Kia Sportage, was traveling westbound on Mile Hill Road at 8:14 am November 11. Stendbergh veered off the road to the right and struck a utility pole.

Newtown Ambulance was dispatched since Stendbergh suffered minor injuries, but he declined transport. His vehicle was towed.

Stendbergh was given a misdemeanor summons for operating a vehicle with a suspended license.

Police are asking if anyone witnessed the incident, to contact Officer Rojas at the Newtown Police Department.

Backed Into Parked Car

Newtown Police report Herbert Rodriguez, 47, of Hempstead, N.Y., operating a 2002 Toyota 4Runner, was backing out of a driveway on Pine Street at 6:02 pm November 11. He backed into a leased 2021 Toyota Tacoma that was parked, unoccupied, on the street.

No injuries were reported.

No enforcement action was mentioned in the report.

Backed Into Car

Newtown Police report Marlene Whitney, 87, of Newtown, operating a 2008 Toyota Camry, was backing out of a parking space at 172 Mt Pleasant Road at 12:31 pm November 13. Michael Lupo, 28, of Wallingford, operating a 2023 Kia Sorrento, pulled northbound into the driveway of and stopped along the eastern end of the drive in an area not designated for parking. Whitney backed into Lupo’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Collided With Stone Wall

Newtown Police report that at approximately 4 pm November 14, an unidentified vehicle traveling northbound on Shut Road hit a stone wall, dislodging several stones. The vehicle then left the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Ongaro at Newtown PD at 203-426-5841.

Evading Responsibility

Newtown Police report Jonathan Marple, 31, of Watertown, operating a 2018 Kia Stinger, was traveling northbound on Main Street at 6:30 pm November 15. He was traveling behind a 2016 Honda Pilot operated by Amir Kearney, 39, of Sandy Hook. Kearney came to a stop in traffic, waiting to make a left turn into 45 Main Street. Marple’s vehicle hit the rear of Kearney’s vehicle. Marple left the scene and, a few hours later, falsely reported to police that his vehicle was struck by an unknown vehicle while parked on Bentagrass Lane.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Marple was issued a misdemeanor summons for evading responsibility for property damage or injury, and a verbal warning for following too closely resulting in an accident.

Probation Violations

Newtown Police responded to the area of Wendover Lane and Church Hill Road for a report of a man sleeping inside a drainage pipe at 12:22 pm November 17. Officers arrived and the man was identified as Sebastian Walsh, 32, of Plainfield.

Officers were informed that Walsh had two warrants out for his arrest. He was taken into custody and arrested on the charges of two counts of violation of probation.

He was released on $27,500 in bonds with a court date of November 20 in Danbury Superior Court.

DUI Charge

Newtown Police arrested Eladio Diaz, 63, of Waterbury, at 9:42 pm November 18, on the charge of illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

He was released on a promise to appear with a court date of November 30 in Danbury Superior Court.

Seeking Information

Newtown Police responded to a motor vehicle accident at 9:20 am November 19 just north of the railroad bridge on Botsford Hill Road. The vehicles were moved prior to police arrival.

Police are asking that anyone who may have seen the locations of the vehicles prior to them being moved to contact Officer Mulhall at Newtown PD at 203-426-5841.
