C.H. Booth Library’s Newtown Nonprofit Council conducted a virtual meeting for a “Get Connected, Newtown” demonstration on Monday, November 22.

Get Connected, Newtown is a new volunteer site on Galaxy Digital where local organizations can post about upcoming or ongoing volunteer opportunities. It also helps volunteers view, choose, and sign up for events. The site was made possible thanks to a grant from the Jeniam Foundation.

Sarah Patafio, reference assistant and volunteer hub project manager for the C.H. Booth Library, showed attendees during the meeting how to use various features on the site.

She reported that there are currently “22 volunteer needs and five active events” posted on the site.

The Newtown Nonprofit Council and its current participating organizations are looking to expand their reach to get more people involved.

During the meeting, Patafio brainstormed with participants about possible ways to make that happen.

As a result, they will look into making a brochure to have at the library for people to learn more. They will also start reaching out to different Facebook groups, including the Friends of Newtown Seniors (FONS) and Newtown Neighbors Unite, to post information about the site.

Newtown Lions Club member Katherine Simpson, whose organization has been actively involved since the creation of the site, voiced, “I think it is so worth the effort.”

She later noted, “We all need to invite more non-profits to come along.”
