Chanukah Concert

SOUTHBURY — A free Chanukah concert, “Picnic and Chanukah Pops,” will be held on Sunday, December 12, at 1 pm at Rochambeau Middle School on Peter Road in Southbury in a performance sponsored by the Jewish Federation.

Children and adults of all ages are invited to enjoy the Big Bear Band and David Grover’s folksy, interactive Chanukah and secular music performance. Mr Grover was Arlo Guthrie’s lead guitarist and arranger for many years, and has traveled around the world playing with such entertainers as John Denver, Willie Nelson, and Pete Seeger.

The Social Action Committee of B’nai Israel Synagogue will be collecting holiday gifts for the Women’s Emergency Shelter in Waterbury. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped gift for an infant, toddler, teenager, or mother.

Playing cards were issued to British pilots in WWII. If captured, they could be soaked in water and unfolded to reveal a map for escape.
