Route 302 DUI

Police said they received a report concerning possible drunken driving about 8 am November 27 on Route 302, near its intersection with Head O’ Meadow Road, so they investigated.

Police said they saw motorist Robert Polizzano, 21, of Hamden driving erratically and crossing the road’s center line on westbound Route 302, so they stopped him to investigate.

After he failed field sobriety testing, police charged Polizzano with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right. Police released Polizzano on $250 bail for a December 10 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Car Audio

Police are investigating the theft of various car audio equipment from a residential garage on Hanover Road, near its intersection with Lake Road, during the past month. Approximately $500 worth of equipment was stolen in the burglary/larceny.

The items taken include amplifiers, electronics, and loudspeakers. Police ask anyone with information on the theft to contact them at 426-5841, or at 270-8888.

Main Street DUI

Police report that at about 1:48 am November 28, they spotted motorist Christopher D’Angelo, 32, of 99 Church Hill Road driving southward on Main Street, but not keeping to the right side of the road. Police said they stopped D’Angelo and investigated, after which they charged him with driving under the influence, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, and failure to drive to the right.

After processing the arrest, police released D’Angelo on $250 bail for a December 9 court appearance.

Warrant Arrest

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Thomas Fullman, 21, of Coventry went to the police station on November 26, surrendered and was charged with failure to appear in court and with disorderly conduct, police said.

Fullman had been scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on October 28 on a disorderly conduct charge, but did not, so a judge issued a warrant for his arrest. The original charge stems from an October incident, police said.

After posting $1,000 bail, police released Fullman for a November 29 court appearance.

Clearview DUI

Police report they investigated the presence of an automobile stopped in the middle of Clearview Drive, near Toddy Hill Road, about 5:20 am November 28. Police said the driver, Marnie Werner, 17, of 10 Antler Pine Road, failed field sobriety testing and was charged with driving under the influence. Police released Werner on $50 bail for a December 9 court appearance.

SUV Off Route 34

Motorist Peter Melanson, 51, of Little Compton, R.I., was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer sport-utility vehicle westward on Route 34, near Old Mill Road about 9 pm November 24, when he lost control of the vehicle, spun around into the eastbound lane, and then went off the road, striking a road sign, police said.

Melanson told police he was reaching for a slice of pizza from pizza box positioned on the passenger seat, when he lost control of the auto. Melanson was not injured in the collision. Police issued him a written warning for failure to drive to the right.

 

Route 34 Crash

Police report a two-car collision at the intersection of Route 34 and High Rock Road about 6:20 pm November 24.

Motorist Kim Wheeler, 43, of 123 High Rock Road, who was driving a 2000 Dodge Intrepid eastward on Route 34, turned to the right onto southbound High Rock Road, and then slowed, after which the Dodge was struck from behind by motorist Dorothea McGarry, 54, of 9 New Lebbon Road, who was driving a 2005 Toyota Camry, police said. The Toyota also was making a right turn from Route 34 onto High Rock Road, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police issued McGarry a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

MDX SUV Hit

A 2002 Acura MDX sport-utility vehicle owned by a Sandy Hook woman was parked in the parking lot at Robert Anthonys Hair Studio at 49 Church Hill Road from 6:30 to 8 pm on November 23, during which time an unknown vehicle backed into the SUV, damaging the driver’s door, police report. Police ask anyone with information on the accident that caused the damage to contact them at 426-5841.

Mazda Vs Deer

On the night of November 27, motorist John Dutsar, 38, of 5 Founders Lane was driving a 2002 Mazda Tribute near 23 Bennetts Bridge Road, when a deer ran into the road and collided with the vehicle, police said. Dutsar was not injured.

Warrant Executed

On November 29, LeeAnn Stone-Kissack, 28, of 28 Beechwood Drive came to the police station and turned herself over to police after learning that they held a warrant for her arrest, police said.

Police charged her with failure to appear in court, driving an unregistered vehicle, and failure to have automotive insurance in connection with a past incident. Police released Stone-Kissack on $250 bail for a December 15 court appearance.

Stolen Car MVA

State police report that motorist Robert Brown, 36, of Waterbury, who was driving a 1990 Honda Accord eastward on Interstate 84 about 10 pm November 23, skidded off the road about 7,500 feet east of Exit 9, with the auto becoming lodged beneath a metal beam guardrail.

Both Brown and a passenger fled the accident, state police said. Neither were injured.

State police said their investigation determined that the Honda had been stolen. State police charged Brown with third degree larceny, interfering with police, evading responsibility, driving under suspension, and failure to drive in the established lane.

Brown was scheduled to appear in court the following day to answer the charges.

I-84 Traffic

While traveling in heavy stop-and-go traffic on eastbound Interstate 84, between Exits 8 and 9, about 11:30 am November 24, motorist Alice Cooney, 44, of 36 Maltbie Road, who was driving a 2001 Honda CRV, stopped and was then struck from behind by motorist Timothy Bradley, 46, of Elizabethtown, Penn., who was driving a 2000 Subaru Outback, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police said that Bradley was following too closely, and added that Cooney had an expired automotive insurance card.

Honda Into Tree

Motorist Viviane Almeida, 22, of Naugatuck was driving a 1996 Honda Accord in the left lane of eastbound Interstate 84, about 2,500 feet east of Exit 11 at about 4:40 pm on November 22, when the auto went off the left side of the road and struck a tree, state police said.

Ambulance personnel transported Almeida to Waterbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, state police said. State police said Almeida failed to drive in the established lane. The accident caused travel delays in the area.

Route 34 Crash

Police report a two-car accident at the intersection of Route 34 and Paugussett Road about 5 pm November 24.

Motorist Nina Tranzillo, 74, of Erie, Penn., who was driving a 2004 Chrysler Sebring eastward on Route 34, stopped for a noncontact vehicle that was making a turn and was then struck from behind by eastbound motorist Yael Tavares, 19, of Danbury, who was driving a 1995 Dodge Neon, police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Elmer Lawrence, 83, of Erie, Penn., who was a passenger in the Chrysler, to Danbury Hospital to be checked for neck pain, police said.

Police issued Tavares an infraction ticket for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Marijuana Arrest

After a male Newtown High School student under age 16 was observed acting suspiciously, police and high school security staff investigated the matter on the morning of November 24, police said.

Police said a small amount of marijuana was found in plain view on the boy, after which a search turned up more marijuana and drug paraphernalia in his book bag.

Police charged the boy with possession of marijuana and with possession of drug paraphernalia. State law shields the identity of people under age 16 charged with criminal offenses.

Police transported the boy to the police station for booking, after which he was released into the custody of his parents. The boy is scheduled to appear December 13 ion Danbury Juvenile Court to answer the charges.

Two Warrants

On November 24, police charged Alan Unger, 38, of 8 Clearview Drive on two arrest warrants, lodging counts including failure to appear in court and driving under suspension in connection with past incidents. Unger posted $1,000 bail and was released for a December 9 court appearance.

Five MV Charges

Police report that they stopped motorist Joseph Barbesco, 30, of Hamden on Route 34 about 4:30 pm November 29 for not displaying a front marker plate.

After investigating, police charged Barbesco with misuse of marker plates, failure to display reflectivized marker plates, driving without automotive insurance, driving an unregistered motor vehicle, and driving without a license.

After processing the arrest, police released Barbesco on $200 bail for a December 14 court appearance.

Sixteen Charges

Police report they arrested John Allen, 31, of 12 Sunnyview Terrace on warrants on the morning of November 30 in connection with a series of past incidents.

Police said they charged Allen with one count of theft of a credit card and with five counts each of identity theft, sixth degree larceny, and illegal use of a credit card.

After processing the case, police released Allen on a promise to appear December 14 in Danbury Superior Court.
