Newtown Squirts Win Watertown Hockey Tournament Trophy

The Western Connecticut Youth Hockey League’s Squirt B Team, with its large contingent of Newtown players, took the runner-up trophy home from the Thanksgiving Weekend Tournament hosted by Watertown Youth Hockey.

The Squirts started the tournament, held at the Taft School, with a 5-0 win over the host team on November 27.

In the first of two games on November 28, the team was beaten 6-0 by East Haven, the tourney favorite, in the morning. Under the coaching of Newtown resident Dan Marsh, the boys raised their game for the afternoon game against the Eastern Connecticut Hockey Organization team with an 8-2 victory. Newtown offensive players Justin Moore, Ethan Cox, Riley Burns and Devin Marsh picked up goals. Fellow Newtowner Nathan Torre-Tasso held the line on defense against the ECHO attack.

In a rematch with East Haven, in the November 29 championship, the Western Squirts managed to put goals into the net early in the game, en route to a 6-3 win to claim the title.
