Verbal Warning

Newtown Police report Annette Genovese, 56, of Milford, operating a 2023 Mazda CX-30, was traveling on Botsford Hill Road near Dusty Lane at 12:56 pm November 7. The vehicle left the roadway to the right, where it struck a tree and rolled onto its right side. Genovese was briefly trapped in the vehicle and was able to be freed on scene by police and fire personnel.

Genovese was transported to Danbury Hospital with minor injuries. The vehicle was towed.

Genovese was given a verbal warning for making a restricted turn.

Three Car Collision

Newtown Police report John Todd, 83, of Bethel, operating a 2006 Jaguar S-Type, was stopped at the stop sign at Church Hill Road and Main Street, attempting to cross Main onto West Street at 1:19 pm November 15. Gregory Rising, 51, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2019 Toyota Rav4, was traveling southbound on Main Street. A 2022 Toytota Rav4 owned by Cynthia Dunn of Newtown was parked in a lot on the southbound side of Main Street. Todd entered the intersection and collided with the back driver’s side of Rising’s vehicle, which fishtailed and struck Dunn’s parked vehicle.

Todd suffered minor injuries but was not transported. Todd’s vehicle was towed.

Todd was issued an infraction for failure to grant right of way at the junction of a highway.

Backed Into Car

Newtown Police report Jonathan Rodriguez, 30, of Bridgeport, operating a 2020 Ford Transit, was backing northbound on Hanover Road in the southbound traffic lane at 2:27 pm November 15. Jedrek Rajcula, 20, of Brookfield, operating a 2006 Volvo XC70, was stopped behind him. The rear of Rodriguez’s vehicle collided with the front of Rajcula’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Rodriguez was issued a verbal warning for unsafe backing. Rajcula was issued a verbal warning for operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

DUI Arrest

Newtown Police report Darrell Peterson, 56, of Newtown, operating a 2016 Kia Sorrento, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 5:10 pm November 16. He was traveling behind a 2014 Honda CR-V operated by Keri McFarland, 49, of Bethany. McFarland stopped, waiting for a vehicle ahead to turn left into a business. Peterson did not stop in time, striking McFarland’s vehicle front to rear.

No injuries were reported. Peterson’s vehicle was towed.

Peterson was arrested for operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Both Drivers Injured

Newtown Police report Ashley Marron, 22, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2008 Nissan Altima, was traveling northbound on Berkshire Road at 5:20 pm November 21. She was traveling behind a 2016 Ford Expedition operated by Edwin Tout, 19, of Sandy Hook. Tout stopped in the roadway waiting for oncoming traffic to clear to turn left onto Tanglewood Lane. The Altima rear-ended the Expedition.

Both operators were transported to Danbury Hospital with possible injuries. Both vehicles were towed.

Marron was issued a written warning for following too closely resulting in an accident.

Misdemeanor Summons

Newtown Police report Eleanor Benson, 79, of Newtown, operating a 2015 Chevrolet Trax, was traveling south on South Main Street at 1:20 pm November 20. Emmanuel Donna, 23, of Bridgeport, operating a 2009 Honda Accord, was traveling north on South Main Street.

Benson made a turn into the driveway of 301 South Main Street. Donna did not have time to stop or avoid the collision, and the Accord hit the right front of the Trax.

Benson was transported to Danbury Hospital for minor injuries. Both vehicles were towed.

Donna was issued a misdemeanor summons for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

Underage Driver

Newtown Police report that at approximately 3:15 pm November 20, police, fire and EMS were dispatched to the area of Old Hawleyville Road and Meridian Ridge Road for a motor vehicle accident. A juvenile operating a 2015 Subaru Legacy struck a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta operated by Zachary Guy, 19, of Brookfield while entering an intersection.

All parties were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The juvenile was issued a juvenile summons for failure to grant right of way at a stop sign, operating without a license, and person under 18 operating without insurance.

Pickup Hits 18 Wheeler

Newtown Police report Carlos Munoz, 43, of Brookfield, operating a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado, was traveling southbound on South Main Street in the right lane at 8:11 am November 21. James Ordway, 36, of Austerlitz, N.Y., operating a 2015 Freightliner 999 was traveling southbound on South Main Street in the left lane. While attempting to merge with the lanes near the intersection of Cold Spring Road, the driver’s side tire of the Silverado hit the front passenger side tire of the Freightliner, causing damage to both vehicles.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Munoz was issued a written warning for failure to drive in the proper lane.

Spun On Wet Pavement

Newtown Police report Juliana Cantu, 22, of Newtown, operating a 2011 Hyundai Elantra, was traveling eastbound on Wasserman Way at 9:31 pm November 21. Jonathan Pelzar, 29, of Boston, Mass., operating a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek, was traveling westbound on Wasserman Way. Cantu’s vehicle lost control on the wet roadway and began to spin; Pelzar attempted to avoid the collision but was unable.

No injuries were reported. Both vehicles were towed.

Cantu was issued an infraction for failure to maintain proper lane and traveling too fast for conditions.

Mini Strikes Honda

Newtown Police report Shaun Stovall, 38, of Waterbury, operating a 2015 Mini Cooper, was traveling southbound on South Main Street at 10:30 pm November 21. He was traveling behind a 2016 Nissan Altima operated by Joshua Balisciano, 38, of Southbury. Balisciano began to slow and the front bumper of Stovall’s vehicle struck the back bumper of Balisciano’s.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was mentioned in the report.

DUI & Other Charges

Newtown Police responded to the report of an erratic driver heading southbound on Route 25 at 4:21 am November 24. Officers responded, located the vehicle, and began a traffic stop. The operator was identified as Quintell Suggs, 31, of Waterbury. Suggs was found to be under the influence of an intoxicant, and was arrested.

He was charged with operation of a motor vehicle while under suspension, operating a motor vehicle at too slow a speed, operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, failure to drive in the proper lane, and possession of a controlled substance — first offense.

He was released on a $1,000 non-surety bond with a court date of December 7 in Danbury Superior Court.

Hit By Unidentified Flying Object

Newtown Police report Garcia Liturna, 23, of Danbury, operating a 2014 Freightliner M2, was traveling on Cemetery Road at 6:22 pm November 25. Anthony Scheer, 48, of Ridgefield, operating a 2015 BMW X5, was traveling on Cemetery Road at the same time. The Freightliner ran over an object in the roadway which bounced off the road and struck the driver’s side quarter panel of the BMW.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Officers were unable to locate the debris in the roadway.

Collided With Deer

Newtown Police report Ellen Sabbagh, 70, of Danbury, operating a 2015 Honda Accord, was traveling northbound on Mt Pleasant Road at 7:33 pm November 25. Sabbagh’s vehicle struck a deer that came from the southbound side of the road and caused damage to the vehicle.

Sabbagh was not injured and her vehicle was not towed.
