Supporting Newtown

Through The United Way

To the Editor:

This is the time of year when we all pause and consider what we have to be thankful for.

We live in one of the most affluent areas of the country that is enhanced by great natural beauty, with access to first class cultural resources and myriad human talent. And yet, there are many in our community who are not able to enjoy these advantages because they face daily struggles.

Through our work as volunteers with the United Way of Northern Fairfield County and at agencies supported by the United Way, we have come to appreciate that there is no single answer for complex societal problems like housing, child abuse, employment training, mental health, and educational opportunities. These require a partnership of the many programs the United Way supports to address the root causes, and not just the symptoms, of these problems. Over and over again, we learn of families and individuals whole lives have been positively affected by not one, but several United Way funded programs.

This is one of the reasons we are enthusiastic supporters of the United Way of Northern Fairfield County — they recognize that we can accomplish more collectively than on our own. Our contribution to the United Way means that our dollars are being leveraged for the greatest impact in our local community through partnerships of the many programs they support.

We are all responsible for the community we live in. Last year, nearly 15,000 Newtown residents were served by a variety of United Way supported programs. We ask you to join us now in supporting the United Way’s campaign. Through your generosity, lives right here in our community can be improved.

Sincerely,

John & Terri-Ann Martocci
