Picnic & Pops: A Hanukkah Concert

SOUTHBURY — David Grover and The Big Bear Band will be the featured performers at a free Hanukkah concert. “Picnic and Hanukkah Pops” will be performed on Sunday, December 12, at 1 pm, at Rochambeau Middle School, on Peter Road. Children and adults of all ages will delight in David Grover’s folksy, interactive Hanukkah and secular musical performance.

Mr Grover writes, performs and records music for children and adults. He was Arlo Guthrie’s lead guitarist and arranger for many years, and he has traveled around the world playing with such greats as John Denver, Willie Nelson and Pete Seeger.

He teamed up with veteran songwriter Aaron Schroeder, with whom he wrote and recorded several hit songs. David Grover and The Big Bear Band perform at Tanglewood and play regularly at The Red Lion Inn in the Berkshires. They have appeared on PBS specials and have recorded several tapes and videos.

The Social Action Committee of B’nai Israel Synagogue will be collecting holiday gifts for the Women’s Emergency Shelter in Waterbury. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring a new unwrapped gift for an infant (rattles, activity centers), toddler (pull toy, blocks, dolls, trucks), child (animal collections, action figures, tea sets, crafts, Legos, board games, Beanies), teenager (sports balls, jewelry, hand held games) or mother (bath & body sets, sweat suits, flannel night gowns, umbrellas).

“Picnic and Hanukkah Pops” is free of charge and open to the public. Doors will open at noon and the concert begins at 1 pm. Traditional Hanukkah goodies of juice, donut holes, Hanukkah gelt and dreidels will be provided by the Federation, and concertgoers are welcome to bring their own picnic lunches to enjoy before the performance.
