Congregation Adath Israel conducted its annual Community Menorah Lighting on Sunday, December 5.

The Huntingtown Road synagogue was able to invite the public to take part in the socially distanced outdoor event, after not being able to host it last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Everyone was asked to wear masks.

Rabbi Barukh Schectman shared that the holiday of Hanukkah “represents the idea of the miracle of the human spirit” for everyone.

Congregation Adath Israel member Meyer Glaser led the crowd in singing songs from the Menorah Lighting Song Book that was handed out. It included multiple Hanukkah blessings and holiday songs, such as "Maoz Tzur" and "Mi Yimalel," which were sung in both Hebrew and English.

Before singing “I Have A Little Dreidel,” Glaser invited the children in attendance to dance like a dreidel.

During the menorah candle lighting, Glaser handed young Ian Sachs each candle to place in the menorah while traditional blessings were recited.

At the end of the ceremony, Glaser said, “Let us all enjoy the miracles of the world and God, and what God has blessed us with every day. Amen.”

Guests were then invited to enjoy various treats and refreshments.
