Early Deadlines, Holiday Closings Ahead Of Christmas And New Year

Two upcoming issues of The Newtown Bee will have early deadlines due to Christmas and New Year’s Day. The print editions will be mailed on their regular schedule.

Real Estate Display ads must be received by 10 am Monday, December 23, to be included in the print edition of December 27, 2019.

Regular Display ads are also due at the time.

Classified ads for that issue will be due by 1 pm Tuesday, December 24.

Items for the Business, Education (including Birthday Cake), Enjoy, Health, and Religion pages must be received by noon Monday, December 23.

General news items and Community Calendar listings must be received by 4 pm Monday.

Letters to the Editor must be received by noon Tuesday, December 24.

The office of The Newtown Bee will close at 3 pm Tuesday, December 24. We will be closed Wednesday, December 25, and then reopen at 8 am Thursday, December 26.

The same schedule will be used the following week, ahead of the January 3, 2020 issue of The Newtown Bee.

Holiday Closings & Other Schedule Changes

All Town offices and agencies will be closing at noon on Tuesday, December 24, and remain closed until 8 am, Thursday, December 26.

The transfer station at the former landfill on Ethan Allen Road will close at 11 am Tuesday. It will remain closed on Christmas Day, and then reopen on Thursday, December 26, at 7 am.

According to the Town of Newtown, recycling normally picked up on Tuesday will be picked up on Christmas Eve. Recycling normally picked up on Wednesday will be picked up on Thursday, recycling normally picked up on Thursday will be picked up on Friday, and recycling normally picked up on Friday will be picked up on Saturday.

C.H. Booth Library will close at 1 pm on Christmas Eve, and remain closed on Christmas. It will reopen December 26 at 9:30 am.

The same schedule will be followed the following week, for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, for Town offices, the transfer station, and the town library.

Newtown’s public schools will have early dismissal on Friday, December 20, and then be closed through Wednesday, January 1. Classes resume on January 2.

FAITH Food Pantry will be closed on Tuesday, December 24. It will reopen for its regular Thursday session, from 6 to 7:30 pm. The nondenominational food pantry’s schedule will not be affected the following week, however. It will be open New Year’s Eve/Tuesday, December 31, from 9:30 until 11:30 am, as well as Thursday, January 2, for its regular evening session.

In addition, there will be no mail delivery on December 25 or January 1; both are United States Postal Service holidays.

Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicle offices will be closed on Christmas and New Year's Day. They will open at 9:15 am December 26 and January 2.
