Business name: World Champion Taekwondo

Address: 125B South Main Street, Newtown, CT, 06470

Owners: Master Heny

What is your business background?: I have been doing Taekwondo since I was seven years old. I started competing locally, nationally, and internationally when I was 14 years old. I received at least 80 medals at the tournaments. After graduating from high school in Korea, I went to University of Bridgeport with a Martial Arts major. After graduating from the college with honors program, I started teaching Taekwondo in Woodbridge. While I was teaching students, I found out that I love this opportunity that can change someone’s lives by giving great positive aspects through teaching Taekwondo. After 6 years of teaching in Woodbridge, I decided to have my own school in Newtown.

What is your business’ focus?: Respect. Taekwondo is not for fighting. “Tae” means foot; kicking techniques. “Kwon” means fist; hand techniques. “Do” means the way of life. Being a good person is more important than being good at Taekwondo. When students are young, it is very important what kinds of aspects are important to live with other people.

What is something important to you that readers know about your business?: I want people to know that Taekwondo is not just martial arts. Many people think martial arts are the same and it is for fighting skills. Taekwondo is a more life-style sport. When you are a kid, Taekwondo is good for you to have great respect and good physical strength. When you are a teenager, Taekwondo will help you to make better decisions and better directions. When you get older, Taekwondo is good for relaxing and relieving stress. And also, it will help you to cooperate your body and mind together.

Do you have any upcoming events?: We hold our annual World Champion Taekwondo Champions two times a year with 13 locations from Connecticut. There are around 360 games that will happen. Also, I have special holiday sales. If people sign up for the membership now, they will get 30 days extra membership. This event will end on January 7.
