In a meet that was a nail-biter throughout, host Brookfield High School's boys' swimming and diving team prevailed 93-92 over Newtown High on December 19. The Nighthawks had eight individual event wins but fell to 1-1 to begin the campaign as Brookfield's depth proved to be too much for the Hawks.

The 200 yard medley relay team of Michael Yu, Colby Delia, Michael Annesley, and Jack Wojtowski was first in a time of 1:47.06.

Rick Irving was second in the 200 freestyle race, clocking in at 1:53.34. Mason Suba was tops in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:08.13. Delia won the 50 free in 22.17.

Annesley was second in the 100 butterfly race, making his final touch in 55.67. Newtown went one-two in the 100 free as Xavier Williams and Irving finished in 50.33 and 52.27. Sean McCleary was runner-up in the 500 with a time of 5:37.18.

In the 200 free relay, Newtown recorded the two fastest times. Jack Swanson, Irving, Suba, and Williams logged a time of 1:36.92. And Yu, Delia, Wojtowski, and McCleary finished in 1:39.29.

Annesley took the top spot in the 100 backstroke race in 1:00.01. Delia captured first in the 100 breaststroke event in 1:05.22. In the 400 relay, Williams, McCleary, Irving, and Suba combined for a first-place finish in 3:31.06.

Diver Joe Moran was fourth with a score of 141.6.
